Maui is famous for its world-class restaurants and cafes. Some of the best spots luckily happen to be a short walk or drive from your vacation rental in South Maui!
For breakfast we like to start off with The Kihei Caffe. This is a fantastic little spot for a “normal” breakfast of exceptional quality. Think omelets, breakfast burritos, eggs, bacon, oatmeal, fruit and huevos rancheros. This cafe also offers the famous “Loco Moco,” which Hawaii is well known for! Loco Mocos consist of two eggs, a freshly ground beef patty, rice and brown gravy. In addition, for the coffee addicts, coffee in the morning is a must and we look no further than Akamai Coffee. Beans here are locally grown and locally roasted for full quality control, not to mention the cafe interior looks like our dream Pinterest board.
Next our favorite lunch spots are not only delicious but also provide you with a taste of local island cuisine. These are Da Kitchen and Paia Fish Market in Kihei. Both restaurants have been around for ages and continue to grow! Da Kitchen serves just about everything: pupus (appetizers), salads, burgers, sandwiches, plate lunches, pasta, steak and fish. However, we encourage you to try the plate lunches and specialty local dishes inspired by the melange that is modern Hawaii. Paia Fish Market South Side is another local favorite featuring the best of freshly caught island seafood. While everything is delicious, we particularly enjoy the fish tacos!
Last for the day, but certainly not least is dinner. Dinner on Maui is a decadent affair so prepare yourself for lots of ono(delicious) food! Our favorites all happen to be in Wailea. These include Monkeypod, Morimoto, HumuHumu and Wolfgang Puck’s Spago. Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman is always a lively affair. We recommend Monkeypod for an outing with friends or fun family dinner. For couples, we highly recommend Morimoto, HumuHumu and Spago. Each provides a stunning atmosphere and exceptionally tasty food.
Morimoto is of course, of the highest caliber Japanese food, while HumuHumu has many options for seafood and meat lovers. Meanwhile, Spago offers primarily a medley of California and Hawaii inspired seafood dishes. At night, Morimoto has a relaxing atmosphere thanks to the lovely view overlooking the glowing turquoise pool at Andaz Maui. The HumuHumu was recently renovated and continues to sit over a one of a kind saltwater lagoon. Spago has a sophisticated space with absolutely breathtaking sunset views.
The great thing about Maui is that any hotel restaurant offers amazing drinks, from the classics to Hawaiian cocktails! One thing we do get asked from time to time is about a bar for the sports junkies who want to catch their game. For this, we recommend Pint & Cork at the Shops at Wailea.
