One of the most rewarding aspects of staying at your own waterfront Maui condo rental in Wailea is the amazing marine life you’ll encounter just gazing out from the lanai of your beachfront Wailea rental. Humpback whales, dolphins, seals and a variety of unique fish can be commonly found across Maui’s beautiful shores, as can another very special marine visitor: the “Honu,” more commonly known as the Hawaiian green sea turtle.
While these magnificent creatures can be seen from shore, getting an up close and personal in the open sea is in fact prohibited by State law. However, thanks to the Maui Ocean Center you can now experience an up close encounter with a Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle without running afoul of the law.
Every last Friday of the month, the Maui Ocean Center will be hosting the “Hangin’ with Honu” event from 11am until 2pm at the Centers’ Turtle Lagoon. Featuring a casual talk about the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle, visitors will learn interesting turtle facts and history, and will have a chance to get up close and personal with one of the Centers’ own Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles. This event is perfect for turtle lovers of all ages who wish to learn more about their favorite marine animal.
