Vacations to Maui, Hawaii are an exciting way to experience a different culture, try new adventures, and see the world like you never have before. Ever since different cultures made their way to Hawaii, the Hawaiian Islands have been home to a mix of customs, traditions, and, most importantly, some of the best food from around the world! From Portuguese influences to Chinese twists on local dishes, cooking in Hawaii is not like on the mainland or anywhere else in the world for that matter, and if you’re an adventurous eater than you’re in luck.
If you are ready to take your taste buds on a journey of a lifetime, then here are a few of the best local food restaurants in Maui to check out so you too can eat like a real local.
Da Kitchen
Da Kitchen is a MUST for your Maui vacation. Located conveniently close to many of our best Maui hotels and resorts, not to mention our rental office (stop in to say aloha), you might want to make this one of your first stops. An easy walk from our Kihei Kai Nani rentals and Kamaole Beach Royale. Try their special lau lau or ask about their chicken long rice but whatever you do, make sure to keep the rice on your plate. Skipping it may cost you some embarrassment as the waiters are sure to call you out.
Tin Roof
Tin Roof offers elevated local dishes by Top Chef contestant Chef Sheldon Simeon. This bustling local food restaurant is turning out pork belly bowls, garlic noodles, and other Hawaiian comfort foods. Not far from the airport, you could stop here as soon as you get off the plane for your Maui vacation! The prices are affordable and the food is delicious. Try the Mochiko Chicken or the saimen. You won’t be disappointed.
Aloha Mixed Plate
If your traveling to West Maui from your oceanfront resort in South Maui, be sure to check this place out! A “traditional” mix plate in Hawaii often comes with a protein, fish or kalbi beef ribs more often than not, rice and a mac salad. At Aloha Mixed Plate, you can get one of the best-mixed plates on the island and also order some great takes on some unique local dishes, as well. From a spam egg benedict to a kalua pig omelet, Aloha Mixed Plate will have you tasting Maui like never before.
